RIP Wade Belak

I hate that this blog is turning into what feels like an obituary. Former Leaf enforcer Wade Belak was found dead at 1 King West today, joining Derek Boogaard and Rick Rypien as NHL tough guys who have passed away (far too young) this off season. Wade was a fan favourite on and off the ice everywhere he played. Toronto will miss him for sure.

RIP Jack Layton

July 18, 1950 — August 22, 2011

From The Globe and Mail: "Jack Layton lost his biggest battle early Monday morning, succumbing to cancer. He was 61.

A popular politician – nicknamed Smiling Jack, for his charm and enthusiasm with life and politics – Mr. Layton orchestrated his party going from third place to Official Opposition status in the May 2 election."

We can only hope to have another political leader like him.

Update: Mr. Layton wrote a letter to Canadians days before his death. Read it here.

RIP Derek Boogaard

June 23, 1982 – May 13, 2011

Farewell, gentle giant.
